Blog Purgatory

Wow. No blog posts since APRIL?! Looks like I’m really an ‘all or nothing’ type of person, eh? In retrospect, I think the cessation of daily blogging was a serious boon to my mental health. No offense to you, dear reader… you know how it is. Sometimes you hit up the buffet of life with gigantic eyeballs and a tiny stomach.

My saint of a mother, who recently got a new car and gave me her “old” one, a mini-SUV that will allow me to transport larger paintings more easily [hooray!!!], advised me on my wedding day that the only constant is change. Of course that still rings true, but for me there are other constants as well- like art. I may have been silent on the blog frontier, but my studio hasn’t been empty. I’m working on a new oil painting of a cafe in Redwood City (top) that’s just coming along swimmingly. I also finished this guy a bit ago:

..still haven’t titled it, though. This piece is my first nightscape of Portland. And there will be more, undoubtedly. Also finished up this little guy, “Coastal” on 12″ x 12″ canvas:

…donated this mixed media abstract from 2010’s daily art challenge to the Crocker, which went for over 200% of its sale price during the auction in the end:

….and painted this watercolor commission of a proposal site in Monte Carlo:

Besides that, I’m essentially still at a creative impasse whilst deciding whether or not to redesign my website and insert a new blog there, so posts here will continue to be sporadic for the foreseeable future.

That being said, there are a couple of definite items on the horizon:

OPEN STUDIOS in Sacramento

Saturday, September 8th and Sunday, September 9th

                               and

Blue Line Gallery Annual Juried Membership Show

July 20th – August 8th in Roseville

I am particularly excited about Open Studios, since I will be hosting that at my own home and actual studio (last year I was in a shared group space downtown). I already started preparing last month, and plan to deck out my garage as a full-on gallery featuring early work, recent work, pieces that have never been exhibited, and oodles of affordable art under $100. Please pencil that weekend into your calendar if you want to join the art party! [PS there will be snacks and booze ;)]

Til next time, have a great weekend everyone.
